2024 is the Year of the Dragon in the Japanese calendar. The dragon is revered as a water god and symbolises health, strength, bravery and trustworthiness.

Katsunori Hamanishi (b. 1949) is an esteemed Mezzotint printmaker, who has taken the technique to a new standard. Over the years he has developed ways of incorporating colour and gold and silver leaf into his prints, which gives them added impact. He was born in Hokkaido, the most northerly island of Japan, and now lives in Kanagawa Prefecture.
