Susan Poole - Iguana (unframed)

coloured etching
printed to order
26 x 31cm

This Marine Iguana was one of many I saw on a visit to the Galapagos Islands. It is the only place this type of Iguana can be found and they can be seen in their hundreds sunning themselves on the rocks. They are the only modern lizard that can forage in the sea, living on algae and seaweed, with the ability to sneeze away the salt. I was fascinated by the linear quality of their wrinkly skins and the patterns created by their masses of fine scales. The colours on this etching were created by printing twice with the same etching plate, first in black , then inked up with varying yellows and greens and printed again.
