Bisila Noha (b.1988) is a Spanish London-based ceramic artist, who uses her work to challenge Western views on art and craft and to reflect upon the idea of home and oneness pulling from personal experiences in different pottery communities. Noha’s works have been exhibited at the Crafts Council, London Art Fair, Edinburgh Art Fair and multiple group exhibitions at Thrown Contemporary. Her works have also been featured in a wide range of media outlets, including The New York Times T Magazine, Ceramic Review, Crafts Magazine and Elle Decoration UK. Noha co-directs Lon-art Creative, an arts and activism organisation that offers a platform for everyone to create, collaborate and reflect upon social issues through the arts. She is also part of Design Can, a campaign to make the design industry more inclusive and diverse.
Noha’s practice is strongly influenced by the history and techniques of Japanese ceramics. She makes ‘simple’ pieces that she uses either as canvas for abstract landscapes or as the embodiment of her reflections and personal life stories. Primarily wheel-thrown, Noha’s works are given the distinctive addition of marbled slip decoration. In 2020, Noha embarked on a new project, Baney Clay: An Unearthed Identity, using different clay bodies and mixing coiling and throwing.
