"I was born in Canada but consider myself to be a Londoner since arriving 30 years ago for what was supposed to be a fortnight. I am a narrative printmaker and cartographer and have worked in virtually every print medium possible. My work combines a love of storytelling and art historical research with a genuine desire to create work that exemplifies my respect for the craftsmanship of printmaking. My homages are serious but always tinged with humour and affection for the source.

I am a past President of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers and my work is in a number of
important collections including V & A Museum; Ashmolean Museum, Oxford; British Library, British Museum and HM The Queen.

How I work

My first love printmaking-wise is etching and ever since being given a massive book on Rembrandt as a boy, I’ve been utterly smitten. I get a great amount of joy out of trying new approaches, however, and in my work for this exhibition I have used three very disparate techniques. These are etching, silkscreen and woodcut and each was specifically chosen to align with the content of the image.

What I love about Night
I love depicting light at night, especially neon like the sign at the Walthamstow Stadium in my Wes Anderson's dog silkscreen."
