"I originally trained as a Naval Architect, working for the Ministry of Defence for 4 years, before studying for a BA in Fine Art at Goldsmiths' College London and MA in Printmaking at Central St Martins. I make prints and paintings of urban environments, capturing the dynamism and energy of modern city life. They depict rain-covered streets, neon lights and lone and group figures. My work is in many public collections, including Museum of London, Ashmolean Museum Oxford and many private collections. I won a number of awards over the past 25 years, was recently honoured to be awarded “Most outstanding Print Award” for one of my etchings by Sir Peter Blake RA and was delighted when Mark Brown, Guardian Arts Correspondent, wrote that “…Duffin Is a rising star. His rich and vibrant paintings are quite simply things of beauty. “

How I work

I make etchings on copper and print these in my London studio. I firstly make drawings in front of the subject in pencil and then from these develop larger drawings and colour studies in charcoal and paint. The best of these go forward to become etchings.

What I love about night

Electric lights, long shadows, sounds of the crowd and the sense of excitement in city environments"
