Victoria took her sculpture degree at City and Guilds of London Art School, where the emphasis was on a classical training. She has completed several commissioned bronze portraits - including a life-size statue of Rudyard Kipling – and is one of four sculptors selected to produce a bronze maquette of Aphra Behn for Canterbury this year. She has exhibited regularly with the Society of Portrait Sculptors and has also had work shown at the RA Summer Exhibition, Towner Art Gallery, Mall Galleries, ING Discerning Eye and at the Royal West of England Academy, Bristol, where she is an Artists’ Network member.

I realized quite early in my art training that I was definitely a 3-dimensional person. For me it’s all about touch and seeing things in the round. Having said that, drawing is an important tool for me, and I often draw to work things out before starting on a piece. Finding inspiration can be a challenge – sometimes ideas just flow and at other times they have to be coaxed out. Physically, when I’m casting, I need some assistance. Fortunately my husband (who is a former merchant mariner) is extremely practical and very calm!

I live and work in the Sussex countryside and although my work is not directly related to the landscape I feel very connected to this area. I grew up here, and although I have lived in London, Ireland and Germany, I have returned. Working with clay, I have always had a close connection to the earth and at art college a lot of my work was about the natural life cycle.
