Adam Frew (b.1981) is a potter based in rural Northern Ireland. He trained at Belfast Art College, where he spent time at the historic Winchcombe Pottery, sparking a love for production pottery, before studying with Judy Makela in Finland. Upon graduating, he undertook a two-year apprenticeship with Lisa Hammond at her Greenwich based pottery. Back in Northern Ireland, Frew was resident potter at Flowerfield Arts Centre for 12 years. After moving to Aghadowey in Co.Derry, Frew renovated an old barn beside his home, from where he now works and teaches from a purpose-built studio. Frew is a member of the Craft Potters Association and exhibits annually in Ceramic Art London. He has also exhibited in galleries and exhibitions across the UK and internationally, including two solo shows at The Harley Gallery in 2013 and 2018, Modern Masters in Munich and a tableware exhibition at the British Ceramics Biennale both in 2018, and a solo exhibition at Contemporary Ceramics in 2020. His work is held in several major collections, including the Mungyeong Ceramic Museum, University of Ulster, Arts Council of Northern Ireland and the Crafts Council of Ireland.

Frew works in porcelain, creating thrown functional and large one-off pots. He decorates his works with coloured slips and then fires the works with a transparent celadon glaze in a gas kiln. Each work is unique and features a variety of mark-marking – sharp lines, soft scribbles, sponged back section, masked off blocks of colour and splashes and washes.
